VeeaHubs support a variety of USB devices to enhance functionality, particularly for networking and data storage. This article provides details on compatible devices and offers guidance for using USB peripherals with your VeeaHub system.
Tested and Supported USB Devices
The following USB devices have been tested and verified to work with VeeaHubs as of February 26, 2021. These include USB-to-Ethernet adapters that are often used to add additional wired network interfaces for failover or extended connectivity.
| Manufacturer | Model | Device Type | Driver |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anker | AK-A7610011 | USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter | r8152 |
| Belkin | B2B048 | USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter | r8152 |
| Linksys | USB3GIG-EJ | USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter | r8152 |
USB Flash Drives
Standard USB flash drives are fully supported on VeeaHubs. They can be used for:
- Logging and diagnostics
- Offline service package installation (in some recovery scenarios)
- Temporary file transfers or config import/export
When inserting a USB flash drive, ensure that:
- The file system is FAT32 or EXT4 for best compatibility.
- You use the drive only when needed—removing it after use helps avoid accidental corruption.
Using USB-to-Ethernet Adapters
USB Ethernet adapters can be useful for:
- Providing a second WAN port for failover configuration
- Creating additional mesh or local LAN connections
- Temporary WAN access when primary port is unavailable
Only adapters based on the Realtek r8152 chipset have been tested. If you're using a different chipset or model, functionality is not guaranteed. Drivers for other chipsets may not be present in the VeeaHub software.
Other USB Devices
Support for other USB devices such as printers, keyboards, or cameras is not currently available. VeeaHubs are designed as secure edge computing and connectivity platforms, and general USB device support is limited by design to maintain system integrity and minimize attack surfaces.
Developer Access
Advanced users and developers with access to the Veea Developer Portal may explore additional use cases involving USB devices, including potential support for USB sensors, serial devices, or other peripherals when developing custom applications or containers.
Recommendations
- Use only known-working USB-to-Ethernet adapters listed above for network expansion.
- Avoid using USB hubs or chained devices, as support for multi-device hubs has not been validated.
- Do not use USB devices that draw high power (e.g., spinning hard drives) without external power support.
Future Updates
Veea continuously tests new devices and updates supported hardware lists as necessary. For the latest compatibility info, consult official documentation or reach out to Veea Support.
