This article is of possible interest to shipping partners, support teams or integrators. It describes a procedure by which the base software of a VeeaHub can be deployed or updated in the absence of a mesh or Internet connection.
It is also available in the situation that a VeeaHub is unable to boot as the result of unlikely error scenarios including:
-
The VeeaHub software is unable to handle the installation and requires upgrading
-
The VeeaHub configuration is invalid and prevents normal operation
-
The VeeaHub firmware has become corrupted
In the above cases, one option is for the support engineer or user to perform a Base Software Update (BSU). The Base Software Update uses a USB memory stick or SD card with a custom image provide by Veea. This image allows the VeeaHub software to be repaired and/or updated without requiring the VeeaHub to be returned to Veea.
The process
VHC05
The VHC05 BSU image is provided on a memory stick. The image may vary in size between 512MB and 4 GB, depending on how much needs to be updated, so will fit on commonly-available memory sticks.
To perform BSU, power off the VeeaHub, insert the USB memory stick into one of the USB ports on the VeeaHub then power on the VeeaHub. The Status light indicates progress.
Status Light | Action |
Off | Booting |
Slow flashing | BSU active |
On | BSU complete |
Fast flashing | BSU failure |
The BSU should take between one and three minutes to complete after the unit is powered on, depending on the size of the update and the performance of the USB memory stick.
Once the BSU has completed, the unit can be powered off and the USB memory stick removed. When the unit is powered back on, it should operate as expected.
VHE09/VHE10
The VHE09/10 BSU image is provided on a Micro-SD card. The image is larger than the VHC05 image, varying in size between 4 and 8 GB, but will fit on many available Micro-SD cards.
To perform a BSU, power off the VeeaHub, insert the Micro-SD card into the Micro-SD card slot on the the VeeaHub then power on the VeeaHub. The logo LED on the lid indicates progress.
Power light | Status light | Logo | Action |
Red flashing | Off | Off/may vary | Booting |
On | flashing | Blue | BSU active |
On | On | Green | BSU complete |
Flashing | Flashing | Red | BSU failure |
The BSU should take between two and five minutes to complete after the unit is powered on, depending on the size of the update and the performance of the Micro-SD card.
Once the BSU has completed, the unit can be powered off and the Micro-SD card removed. When the unit is powered back on, it should operate as expected.
VHH10
The VHH10 is a sealed unit with no SD card or USB ports available. BSU is not possible on the VHH10.
